Paavali Jumppanen

Paavali Jumppanen is one of the most successful Finnish pianists of his time, appearing regularly as both soloist and chamber musician around the world. His repertoire covers piano music from Bach to the avant-garde. He has collaborated with many composers and premiered a large number of piano and chamber works. Jumppanen studied at the Sibelius Academy, and then in Switzerland, where he worked under Krystian Zimerman. At the City of Basel Music Academy he also studied the organ, clavichord and fortepiano. Jumppanen has performed the piano sonatas of Beethoven and Mozart in several concert series, attracting much attention, in both Finland and the USA. He was the first Finn to record all of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas. But Jumppanen has not only pursued an international career as a soloist: he is a popular teacher and has been visiting professor at the Sibelius Academy, for example. He is also Artistic Director of the International PianoEspoo Festival.
