Simo Mäkinen

Tenor Simo Mäkinen (born 1982) is a versatile performer who sings opera roles, chamber music, oratorio and modern vocal repertoire. He studied at the Sibelius Academy under Monica Groop and Anssi Hirvonen and with Susanna Eken at the University of Copenhagen. Mäkinen made his debut at the Finnish National Opera in 2010 in Ilkka Kuusisto's Gabriel, tule takaisin! ('Come back, Gabriel!'). He began to establish a basis for his versatile, sound musicianship before his singing career began, when he studied to become a teacher of the violin.
